Car auction questions
How do online car auctions work at AutoHub Africa?+
Sellers list their car with photos, proof of ownership and a viewing address. Once we've verified it, the car can be viewed in person straight away, until 24 hours before bidding closes. Bidding opens at 09:00 the next day and runs online for 48 hours. The highest bid wins if it meets the seller's reserve price; if it doesn't, the auction restarts the next day at 09:00.
How do I bid on a car?+
Create a free account, open the car you like and pay a refundable R2 000 deposit to register for that auction. You'll get the viewing address, and once bidding opens you can bid online: tap for the standard R1 000 raise, or enter your own amount in multiples of R100 above the current bid.
Do I get my deposit back?+
If you bid and don't win, your full R2 000 deposit is refunded by EFT within 7 days. If you register but never bid, R1 000 is refunded. If you win, the deposit goes towards the price.
Is buying a car on auction safe?+
Every seller uploads their ID and the vehicle's registration (NaTIS) document, which we check before the auction goes live. You can inspect the car in person before bidding, and the buyer pays AutoHub Africa — the seller is only paid after the buyer confirms they've collected the car.
How do I sell my car on auction?+
Fill in the form on our "Sell your car" page: take photos of every side, the speedometer, dashboard and seats, upload your NaTIS and ID, and set a starting bid and a private reserve price. If your car sells, we pay you the winning bid less a 5% commission once the buyer has collected it.
What happens if bids are placed at the last second?+
If someone bids with 30 seconds or less left, 2 minutes are added to the clock, so every bidder has a fair chance to respond.
Where are the cars?+
Cars are listed by private sellers across South Africa. Each listing shows the suburb and city, and registered bidders get the full viewing address.
